Message from the National Chairman to NISafetyE Members – July 2026
Dear Esteemed Members,
I joyfully welcome you into the new month of July 2026. The past month of June was both impactful and eventful, filled with meaningful engagements. I am pleased to share the notable strides we achieved together in advancing the practice of safety engineering across Nigeria:
- On June 5, we celebrated World Environment Day (WED) through a National Webinar. This was complemented by a radio broadcast, live talk show, and awareness campaigns across our Delta, Akwa Ibom, Kaduna, Lagos, and Oyo Chapters.
- State Chapters hosted enriching technical sessions, while Delta and Akwa Ibom embarked on industry visits and career talks in secondary schools. Akwa Ibom further rounded off the month with a public lecture, induction of new members, and held its Chapter AGM, proudly hosting the National Chairman and his entourage.
- We formally wrote to COREN seeking collaboration ahead of the 2026 COREN Assembly scheduled for July 13–15.
- On June 16, we honoured the invitation of the FML-OSH Department and responded to the ILO Chemical Hazards Convention Questionnaire. Our submission was well received and applauded.
- Between June 16–18, we participated in the 2nd Edition of the International Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation held in Abuja.
- On June 23, we honoured COREN’s invitation to the stakeholders’ meeting on harmonisation of Construction Safety Standards and Guidelines. Again, our contribution was well received.
These engagements underscore our unwavering commitment to strengthening safety engineering practice in Nigeria. As we step into July, I charge all members to remain steadfast and dedicated to our collective mission. Therefore, I inspire everyone to:
- Register early for our upcoming International Safety Engineering Conference(Oct 8–10) in Port Harcourt.
- Clear all outstanding Membership dues to ensure full participation in the Annual General Meeting.
- Take note that the NISafetyE Members Register will be published before the 2026 AGM, and only financially up-to-date Fellows and Members will be included.
- Prepare to join us in celebrating the 10th Year Anniversary of NISafetyE 🎉, which will be marked during the Conference on October 8–10, 2026.
Together, let us continue to build a stronger, safer, and more impactful profession. I wish you a safe and productive new month!
Yours in Safety and service,
Engr. Andrew M. Abanum, PhD., FNSE, FNISafetyE
